Printed Portraits vs. Digital Files

I have vivid memories of sitting in front of my grandparents' living room bookcase with my two younger cousins on either side of me flipping through a family photo album, the one with the deep rusty orange and cream fabric cover that looked more like 1970's upholstery than a photo album cover, pulling the pictures out one by one and laughing hysterically for hours... at the clothing, the hair styles of decades earlier, the hilarious candid moments frozen in time with a click of a camera. I still remember the feel of the photo paper and the differing paper finishes based on how old the pictures were. I can still vividly see my grandmother's handwriting on the back of almost every picture, with the date and the names of the people in the picture. And it makes me smile.

Even though it's easily been 35 years since I was in that moment, those PRINTED pictures brought me joy then, and the memory of the moment brings me joy now. This is why Pixels is a print-based portrait studio. The current generation is photographed more than any other, and the majority of them won't have printed images to look back on. Technology has made capturing a moment, every moment, a no-cost event that most people give little thought to anymore. The camera is always at the ready.

In a culture of photo "noise", Pixels aims to bring our clients back to the days when "if it was important enough to take, it was important enough to print". We are part of the movement to give the most photographed generation tactile prints to look back on, FEEL something when they look at the images, and remember the moment. At Pixels by Emily, we believe your family’s story deserves more than a spot on your camera roll. It deserves a place of honor on the walls of your home.

Here’s why investing in printed artwork isn’t just a luxury—it’s a legacy:

#1 Printed Portraits Tell a Story Without Needing a Screen

Digital files often get buried in a sea of screenshots and forgotten memories. Printed portraits, however, are ever-present. They speak volumes from your walls, whispering reminders of what matters most, every time you walk by.

#2 Daily Visibility Boosts Children’s Self-Worth

Research consistently shows that when children see themselves in printed photos at home, it increases their self-esteem and sense of belonging. Displaying their portrait says, "You are loved. You belong. You matter."'

#3 Prints Create a Legacy. Digitals Often Disappear.

Tech evolves. USBs fail. Cloud passwords vanish. But printed artwork stands the test of time. Our heirloom portraits become part of your family’s story—treasured today, passed down tomorrow.

#4 Art You Can Touch Becomes Part of Your Space

Our hand-framed prints, custom albums, and gallery-quality canvases don’t just preserve your portraits—they elevate them. They become part of your home’s story and style. Portraits should be experienced, not just viewed.

#5 Print Encourages Curation, Not Clutter

Digital galleries can be overwhelming—hundreds of images that often go untouched. With print, you're choosing the best of the best: meaningful images that have been expertly crafted, retouched, and designed to be showcased.

#6 Heirlooms Have Heart

There is something deeply emotional about holding a handcrafted album or seeing a portrait framed on your wall. These pieces become the tangible heart of your family's legacy—what future generations will cherish most.

#7 The Experience Feels More Complete

Photography is an art. And like all art, it deserves a final form. A printed portrait is the masterpiece—the moment your story is no longer just a session, but a statement.

At Pixels, we don’t just take pictures. We create heirloom artwork that reflects your family's story, style, and spirit. Let us help you transform your memories into something meaningful, lasting, and beautiful.
