Frequently Asked Questions

  • Get started by filling out a Contact Form on the website. From there, you can book directly through an online Booking Proposal Brochure we can send or you can schedule a consultation (in person or via Zoom) and can book a session at that time. Please note- no session is reserved until payment is received. Retainer fees are non-refundable, but are transferable to another session.

  • We do not. Mini-sessions are just not compatible with the custom designed and fine art nature of the portrait art we create.

  • Pixels is solely a portrait studio and, as such, does not photograph events of any type.

  • If it’s a portrait session, we’re always open to new challenges and love to step outside the box. Have an idea? Send it our way and we’ll figure it out!

  • Pixels operates on a standard work week schedule of Monday through Friday. On the rare occasion we accept a weekend session, there is an additional $100 fee.

  • Absolutely! Travel sessions incur an additional fee and are priced on an individual basis, so please contact us with your details and we’ll get a proposal drawn up for you.

  • All the time! If you would like those services for your session, we are happy to arrange them. We have several professionals in those industries that we trust and use religiously.

  • Yes, but we must discuss it in advance. Animals can present challenges that we need to prepare for ahead of time.

  • This does not happen often, but is decided on a case by case basis. Rescheduling a session for weather is made at our discretion.

  • Please text, call or email us as soon as you become aware that you will be unable to come for your session. Sick littles are no fun and we are happy to reschedule your session to another time. In addition, because so many children are in and out of the studio and we do our best to keep everything sanitized, if anyone in your party is feeling under the weather, we ask that you reschedule your session.

  • If you are booking an outdoor family session, we recommend booking several months in advance, especially if you want a fall session. Fall is family-photographer busy season, so September and October dates book quickly and well in advance. If you are planning on a studio family session, we recommend booking at least a month in advance.

  • We typically photograph maternity sessions in the 32-36 week range.

  • Yes. We have an extensive closet of beautiful maternity gowns in many colors and styles, tulle skirts and tops, and other items in the Pixels wardrobe that clients have full access to use.

  • We recommend booking your session when you are 4-5 months along. Booking well in advance gives us plenty of time to plan your session and have any custom props needed for your session made and shipped.

If you have already delivered though, don’t panic. I will do my very best to get you in for a session. It’s always worth reaching out to ask.

  • Once you have officially booked a session, we block off the calendar for the two weeks before and after your due date to give a one month window for your baby’s potential arrival. We never let more than three due date windows cross over one another, so that should all the babies on our schedule arrive at essentially the same time, there is room for everyone to have their session during the ideal window.

We do ask that you reach out to let us know when you are going into labor or contact us as soon as the baby arrives so that we can get your session reserved on the calendar.

  • The typical newborn portrait session window is 7-28 days old, but for various reasons I prefer to work with them in the 10-18 day range. If your baby is premature, we would base it off gestational age, so when the baby would have been 10-18 days old if he or she had been carried to full term.

  • It depends on the portrait package you select, but they range from 3 - 5 hours.

  • It depends on the package you purchase. Please keep in mind that the focus of all newborn portrait sessions is the newborn and parent/sibling portraits are supplemental. Additionally, family/ sibling portraits are typically taken at the beginning of the session.

  • In most cases, no. We are well versed in many different post-processing techniques to remove distracting flakes, rashes and acne. During my standard retouching work, we will gently smooth out any skin imperfections, but not obliterate skin texture making it look like plastic. If you are concerned, though, feel free to reach out to me and we can discuss your specific case.

  • Pixels provides everything needed for the session except for the baby. Please refer to the Newborn Prep Guide for other items that you may want to have on hand.

  • Sugar Cloud Cakes

  • The Ordering session should be scheduled before you ever come in for the portrait session and is usually 7-14 days after the session. Once you have selected your final images, any portraits that you are receiving as digitals will be delivered electronically via a WeTransfer link within 2-3 weeks.

  • We don’t post sneak peaks for multiple reasons. First and foremost, we don’t want to spoil the best part of a session- the portraits! Seeing your gallery for the first time at the in-studio Ordering session is exciting and we don’t want to water that down by posting piecemeal portraits from your session. Another important reason is that many times, portraits from the sessions we photograph are being used for newborn, graduation or engagement announcements and holiday cards. The last thing we want to do is steal a client’s thunder by sharing something before they have a chance to share it.

  • Let us know what you want and we’ll happily create a custom package just for you.

  • When we provide digital images, they are sized to create impeccable framed table top and gift prints. Many hours are spent on the retouching process making sure that every detail of your portraits, along with all colors and tones are perfect. It is paramount to us that large reproductions of portraits we create are printed by commercial labs that we have vetted and trust. In addition, printed products are the culmination of hours of the service and expertise we provide and we take a great deal of pride in printing the portraits we create.

  • Due to the investment level and personal nature of the products we provide, it is important that we have a client’s written approval for all wall art and heirloom album orders before they can be sent to the lab for processing. All details of your order will be laid out in the approval request as well as proofs showing the final edited and cropped version of each piece being ordered. By signing off on the order, you are agreeing that everything detailed in the approval request is correct and that so long as the order arrives according to those specifications, Pixels will not be held liable for any changes or errors.

  • Definitely! In addition to personal delivery of all orders, we will install any wall art in your home or office at your convenience.

  • All wall art purchased from Pixels comes with a lifetime guarantee. If anything happens to your wall portraits over time, we will replace each piece up to one time at no charge.
